Microsoft Rolls Out OneNote Updates for Education

Microsoft has announced a series of educational-focused updates for OneNote that vary across platforms. But everyone is getting new sticker packs.

“With the new school year underway in many places around the world, we’re releasing a set of updates to help teachers save time, be more organized, and have fun,” Microsoft’s Mike Tholfsen explains.

Here’s what’s new:

Sticker packs. Microsoft has been rolling out sticker packs on various OneNote versions, and now they’re on OneNote for iPad too. You can find sticker packs on the Insert tab. New this month for everyone are Dinosaur Sports and Unicorns sticker packs.

OneNote Class Notebook toolbar for iPad. The OneNote Class Notebook toolbar was already available on OneNote for Windows desktop, OneNote for Windows 10, OneNote Online, and OneNote for Mac. And now it’s on iPad, too, adding teacher tools like page distribution, student work reviews, and shortcuts to quickly launch and manage the Class Notebook.

New UI comes to OneNote Online. The new OneNote UI, which makes the app more accessible, has been rolling out on various platforms all summer. And now it’s available on OneNote Online.

Class Notebook add-in updated on OneNote for Windows Desktop. On OneNote 2016 for Windows, the Class Notebook add-in has been updated to include some useful assignment and grade integration improvements, along with other bug fixes, Microsoft says.

In reply to JC:

OneNote Class Notebooks are used at all age groups – I teach ages 6-19 and the younger ones especially appreciate the colourful stickers – and frankly even the older ones do. Did you never get a smiley face on any of your school work? Everyone loves to get more than a few ticks/crosses and generic "good work!"/"must try harder!" note from their teacher.

As for the too-cool-for-school uni students with their premium education devices and apparent lack of humour and joy – thankfully OneNote has a million other really useful features they can choose to use instead and they can safely ignore the "childish" stickers without getting upset that other people are using them.

As ever, if one doesn't like a certain feature, one isn't forced to use it! ?

OneNote gets better all the time, and the team behind it should be held up to other MS teams as an example of how to do it right.

Way back when, OneNote revolutionised how I work and make notes, and the past year or two Class Notebook has revolutionised the way I teach and it keeps getting better – especially with the integration into Microsoft Teams this year.
