What irritates me is not the publicity that MS is pushing in Windows 10. Is that we get the publicity and we still have to pay for it!!!

MS in several instances always tried to have everything in all ways at the same time. MS is not very good in compromising in its tactics IMHO.

This is why that I think both MS and the Consumer had very much to gain if Windows 10 S became free with a set of rules. In such context MS could fully engage in other ways to monetise. For instance, allowing users to upgrade by paying MS directly (In Pro or Home, no ads). Carrier billing so on and so forth.

Take for instance Apple. They could have kept the revenue of selling OSX and iWork, but decided instead to compromise that revenue stream that at the time they did the move was probably not insignificant for the company. That let them free to explore other more effective ways to make $$ that make much more sense as technology advances.
