Paul, Yes I am able to use a Surface Pro 4 pen on an HP spectre x360 2017 and then I can do the reverse and use the HP pen on the Surface pro 4.

The only issue is the Surface Pen the eraser button will not work on the HP.

Listening to your pen discussion – my Sony 'Digitizer Stylus' that came with my 2013 Sony Vaio Fit 13A works OK with my Surface Laptop

Wish they could coat all mobile devices with a protective material from the factory. To put a screen protector on or not causes my brain to halt and catch fire. It's the most exhausting thing about buying a new phone. ?

I vaguely remembered there being an announced from Microsoft regarding the pen stuff, so I looked it up and indeed there was one at Build 2016 about a partnership with Wacom. It's also mentioned in a Windows blog post entitled "The Future of Pen: Windows Ink". (For some reason I can't put the URL for it in this post without getting a "Something went wrong" error.)

There exists something called the Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP). Any hardware vendor that implements it should have a Surface / Windows 10 compatible pen.

There is a Wacom Bamboo Ink pen in the store that's MPP compatible according to one of the reviews.
