That parking lot story is amazing Paul. That would have really irked me if that happened to me.

One time when I went to my local Guitar Center, I was walking through the parking lot approaching the door when I was stopped by a woman and her kids, and she was basically pleading for help for me to save them because they were, well, in dire straits let's put it that way. It took a bunch of explaining that, I had no cash on me, I didn't know them, etc. etc., then when she saw I wasn't going to budge, she said thank you and they all walked away.

I'd like to think I could help people like that once in a while (assuming it's not a scam), but I'm not a millionaire and I don't own my own company where I could just hire them on the spot to do odd jobs.
