A couple of thoughts.

I would argue that if the iPhone is the source of virtually all of a company’s profit, then that’s their core business. No matter how grand the company history is with desktops and laptops/tablets, that particular towel full of nourishing water of has pretty much been wrung dry.

Live tiles: to my demographic (old, retired, not yet ready for the porch and the rocking chair) live tiles are window dressing. They are like chrome and tail fins on a product where the real action is in power, fuel efficiency, and safety. I can’t think of more than two or three apps where I might intermittently pay attention to live tile info in preference to opening the damn door and walking straight into the heart of the app itself. Maybe I would look at this differently if I had 50 fewer years under my belt. I can see that a vital screen with color shifts and movement could be at least a little more involving than a flat panel with paralyzed squares, but it’s always a challenge to keep from going overboard. The question in the back of any design team’s hive mind ought to be, "What would [favorite designer’s name goes here] think about this?"

Aside from the people thing, it feels like the Creators Update is about done. I expect a late March/early April release. If they actually beat that by a couple of weeks, great. If not — well, it’s not like we haven’t been there before.

I like live tiles. On Desktop, WM10, and SP4. I want better features and functionality from live times. I had the hunt-and-peck and then open of iOS and Android. Of course, iOS and Android have pages (swipe from left) and widgets that do similar things (hubs of in guess). I would much rather have an OS that presents a "dashboard" of just-in-time info that I can scan and interact with rather than having to open individual apps/programs. (I am not a youngster.)

BTW. How is it okay that iOS and Android have "hubs" that pull info from apps but when Microsoft did it on WP it was a bad idea???
