The Sams Report is a weekly podcast that dives deep into the world of Microsoft. With the company transforming the way it operates and Nadella putting his own touch on all aspects of the organization, the Sams Report breaks down the news and offers insight from insider sources.

On this episode, it’s time to look at the margins for hardware and how that plays into Microsoft’s future, Halo Wars 2 is ready for prime time and Build is coming up soon.

Perhaps Microsoft can make better margin on hardware if they make better products and evolve (and sustain) them over time.

Gartner was wrong to predict that Microsoft would have 12% of the mobile market in 2016? Right....

Not so fast. The major markets that failed were the US and China. In Europe, while Nokia was selling Windowsphone, there were good numbers in the double figures. Of course Microsoft focused on the USA and left the rest of the globe alone. Even the collapse of the Windowsphone market happened fastest in the USA despite the USA getting new features faster.

It's an irony that Microsoft ignored successful markets that could have grown with a moderate effort and did as much as they could to support everywhere no one was interested.
