The Sams Report EP 79: HoloLens Be Thy Game And Unboxing

The Sams Report Hero 16x9

The Sams Report is a weekly podcast that dives deep into the world of Microsoft. With the company transforming the way it operates and Nadella putting his own touch on all aspects of the organization, the Sams Report breaks down the news and offers insight from insider sources.

On this episode, it’s time to dig into my HoloLens scoop, a bit less about Grove Music Maker, and a friendly face joins the party.

Great job, Brad. Really want the XPS 13. BTW, I think Paul needs one of those lights.

What's the source of the market/user share figures you mentioned? The figures sounded like the ones in the AdDuplex report Paul wrote about earlier. If that's the source, they're usage share figures based on 5,000 Windows phone (and UWP?) apps on 20 February 2017. Meaning a rather unreliable sample population for PCs.

You mentioned US only services again.

Windowsphone would have an interesting graph if you mapped services avialabilty to market share over the last few years.

Find any market where Windowsphone got to double figures and match it to the list of Microsoft services available to users in that country. The countries that bought Windowsphone found that Microsoft didn't really do much for their markets or brought in a service months or years later. Whereas you look at the USA where Windowsphone never got to double figures and they were always first.

Mobile payments for Windowsphone. Still US only. Microsoft dont just give the impression they have a lack of focus on mobile. They give the impression of complete complacency, lack of interest, no understanding of how to build products in successful markets and all around lack of competence in mobile.

Microsoft should be called out not for lack of focus but consistent inability in the first party mobile space.
