In macOS you don't need a USB drive with the OS to make a clean install. You already have one bakes in your Mac or Macbook.

Just upgrade normally and than do an install following these instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

If eventually sell your Mac do this before delivering it.

I work in business, and couldn't disagree more about dual-screen. This is not about multi-tasking; at least not primarily so. I constantly must refer to one or more reference sources in order to compose a document or worksheet or presentation. It is a stress-relief, not a stressor, to see both documents side by side. Even reading email, having a full-document screen on one side and the list of emails on the other, is natural. Single screen means constant switching back-and-forth. This is so obvious, and I just cannot relate to a single-screen preference.
