Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Buy the right Surface Go

Skip the entry-level configuration. Here’s why.

Audiobook pick of the week

My favorite audiobooks so far in 2018

Enterprise pick of the week: Microsoft now lists Windows 10 1803 as officially business-ready

Yes, they said the April update (1803) was ready for businesses to deploy last month, but it wasn’t until yesterday that they updated their servicing guidance charts to say this. Win 10 1803 plus the June cumulative update is now “business ready” (as of July 10).

Codename pick of the week: Lingo, Libra, Lexington and Gibson

A quick look back at the codenames connected with the Surface Go launch. Lingo, Libra were codenames for the tablet (supposedly the marketing and engineering ones). Lexington = the new $35 mobile mouse. Gibson = the new smaller Surface Go covers

Beer pick of the week: Brew Dog Hazy Jane

Those Scottish brewmasters over at Brew Dog have started brewing more of their beers in the U.S. Here’s a New England style IPA called Hazy Jane from these guys that is very tasty and drinkable.

The only employees at the company I work at using Surface tablets are front-line workers. Namely, fork-lift drivers and quality team that pull and inspect product. The problem I see with Surface Go is the screen may be too small for desktop apps. The only reason these employees use Surface as opposed to iPad tablets is the ability to run desktop apps that were previously being run on a handful of PC's placed in a few places within the factory. Just 2 weeks ago one of the quality team managers was asking me if we could replace their Surface 3's with the Surface Pro 4 to get a larger screen.

Really? Someone steals Leo's cat and he does nothing.

If someone stole my cat, I'm calling the cops and press charges.
