Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Get Xbox Game Pass for PC for 3 months for just $1

This new offer is the best price yet to see what Game Pass is all about on PC. Or, go Ultimate for $1, but just for one month.

App pick of the week: Half-Life, HL-2, and the HL-2 Episodes are all free

On PC. And only through March. And also “free to play” not free forever. But still.

Enterprise pick of the week: BizTalk 2020: It’s alive!

The latest iteration of Microsoft’s enterprise app integration server is available.

Enterprise pick 2: Israel finally is getting a Microsoft cloud region

Coming in 2021, starting with Azure.

Beer pick of the week: Trillium Cutting Tiles (Mosaic DDH) DIPA

Trillium is a Boston-based brewery that is well known for fantastic IPAs. They seem to be expanding their distribution, as we’ve started seeing them show up in NYC and beyond. Their Cutting Tiles Mosaic DDH is a great example of how to make a DIPA juicy, tropical and well balanced.

You talked about Linux and Microsoft… nice thought! If you ask me my predictions, Windows 10X is just a stop-gap arrangement. They have their eyes on Chrome OS… just waiting for it to mature enough so that it becomes usable. They want to be the run company and the hardware company. They don't want to develop OSs. That is offloaded on Google. Just take other peoples' inventions and host them on the cloud. Microsoft has hit upon a goldmine: be the run company. . If you can milk a cow, why eat it?

Another unrelated thought I had was that for those who are still on Windows Phone in 2020, it is a good time to switch to Android 10… they even have dark mode now, like Windows Phone 7! I switched a month ago to Xperia 1 and am having no nightmares. Just need to tweak it a bit to get rid of all the nonsense and then it is almost as good as Windows Phone. Only (major) downside is that the Microsoft Apps that Joe Belfiore cloned on Android cannot hold a candle to the Windows Phone originals that Terry Myerson built. But you do get Teams which almost works.

I browsed here just to find out what ¨nose scrolling¨ was. I guess I´ll have to wait until I watch WW656. That title conjurs up all kinds of weird.
