Tips and picks

Tip of the week: Turn off installed apps in Start’s Recommended section in Windows 11

Settings > Personalization > Start > Show recently added apps (and most used apps)

App pick of the week: Start11 gets a big update

This should ship today. If not, very soon.

Enterprise pick of the week: Windows 11 Security Baseline is now available

It’s likely going to be a while until most enterprises implement Win 11, but MSFT already has the Security Baseline for it done and ready. A security baseline is a group of Microsoft-recommended configuration settings that explains their security impact. These settings are based on feedback from Microsoft security engineering teams, product groups, partners, and customers.

Codename pick of the week: Project Beluga

Beluga is somehow connected to the Microsoft WebXT team (the Bing, Edge, MSN folks). It has to do with delivering new customer experiences – so maybe some new future Win 11 widgets? — that they will base on customer usage patterns and data. It’s going to be a whale of a project, no doubt!

Beer pick of the week: Transmitter S1X Wild Blueberry Saison

In keeping with the blooming blueberry theme of the week, here’s a really good saison that was made with wild blueberries from Transmitter in Brooklyn. These folks specialize in Belgian/farmhouse styles and this one has just the right amount of blueberry not to be cloying. “Macerated whole wild blueberries were added to S1 Mahogany Saison to finish fermenting this dark fruited beer.” Tastes kind of wine-like.
