Google has announced its Spring 2026 Update for Google Home, and it’s a big one, with Gemini 3.1, a new camera experience, improved automations, and other new features.
“We are always working behind the scenes to improve your Google Home experience and help your day run smoothly,” the Google Home and Nest team explains. “This May update brings an overhauled camera experience and a smarter home experience.”
Gemini 3.1. The Gemini for Home voice assistant is getting a Gemini 3.1 upgrade that provides reasoning capabilities for complex multi-step commands.
Modernized camera experience. The Google Home app is getting a massive update for the camera experience with a refreshed and modernized user interface, faster navigation, smooth video scrubbing, a redesigned event details page, and alerts with zoomed-in previews. Google has also expanded support for older cameras for Google Home Premium members.
Improved automations. Google Home now supports a wide range of new automations for security and access control, appliance state and cleaning, lighting and environment control, media and entertainment, and device health and inputs. For example, there are automations for arming security systems, sending commands to robot vacuums, and adjusting light bulb brightness, color, and color temperature.
In addition, Google is previewing two other new features that are coming soon to public preview: Ask Home on the web and improved and expanded notifications with “Quick action” buttons for instant device control. You can learn about the Google Home Public Preview on the Google website.
