Microsoft released today two new Windows 11 and Windows 10 builds for Insiders on the Release Preview Channel. The new bits introduce changes for default apps for EU users, and there’s also a new visual preview feature for Windows Share on Windows 11.
In the Settings app, Microsoft is changing the default behavior of the “Set Default” button for choosing a new default browser. Additional file and link types will now be set for the new default browser, if it registers them. The new default browser will also be pinned to the Taskbar and Start menu, unless Insiders choose not to by clearing the checkboxes.
In the same Settings > Apps > Default apps section, Microsoft added a separate one-click button for browsers to change the default app for opening PDFs, if the browser registers for the .pdf file type. Microsoft previously made its Edge browser the default app for opening PDFs on Windows PCs, but changing it should now be easier for EU users.
For Windows 11 users, today’s 23H2 build 22631.5545 also introduces a new visual preview in the Windows Share window when users share links or web content. The new build also fixes an issue causing the Windows Search box to take over 10 seconds to load before users could use it.
