Windows 11 Version 24H2 Has Compatibility Issue With Google Workspace Sync Outlook Plugin

Microsoft has discovered a new compatibility issue between Windows 11 version 24H2 and the Google Workspace Sync plugin for Outlook for Windows. This app is an Outlook plugin that lets Google Workspace users sync their emails, calendar events, contacts, notes, and tasks to the classic Outlook for Windows, but it may prevent the desktop client from launching on Windows 11 version 24H2.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might experience issues while starting Microsoft Outlook if you are using Google Workspace Sync,” Microsoft explained on its Windows Health Dashboard. “You might observe that Microsoft Outlook fails to start, and you are unable to uninstall or reinstall Google Workspace Sync. Resulting from this issue you will observe an error which begins with ‘Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot Open the Outlook Window. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occurred. MAPI was unable to load the information service’.”

The current way to solve this issue is to install the latest version of Google Workspace Sync (4.3.68.0). Windows 11 PCs running a previous version of the app will be unable to install the latest version of the OS (24H2) due to this compatibility issue. For the rare cases when users are still unable to install Windows 11 version 24H2 48 hours after installing the latest version of Google Workspace Sync app for Windows, Microsoft recommends that affected users contact Google Workspace Support.

Microsoft is still working to fix other compatibility issues on Windows 11 version 24H2. Another one that was recently discovered affects PCs where Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are installed. These games don’t run well on Windows 11 version 24H2, and Ubisoft will need to patch them before users who have them installed can upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.
