Microsoft Makes it Official, Master Chief Collection is Coming to the PC

Xbox One X Enhanced Versions of Original Halo Games Pushed to 2018

It was last week that I wrote up that Microsoft was preparing to release the Master Chief Collection for the PC and the company is making it official today. Master Chief collection was announced during the Inside Xbox event that the company streamed earlier today.

For MCC, 343 is saying that all of the features you expect for a modern PC title will be included, so it’s not a simple port from Xbox to the PC. Further, the games will be rolling out, so it won’t be a single drop of all the games at once like they did with the Xbox release and it will include Halo Reach as well.

The other big announcement for this game is that it will also be available on Steam too, not just the Microsoft store.

As for the release order, Halo Reach is the first title followed by the titles in chronological order.

Microsoft is continuing to make significant investments in the gaming space. From buying up studios to build out its first-party IP, xCloud to stream that content anywhere, and GamePass services to monetize the offering. Next week the company will be at the Game Developer Conference where we can expect to learn more about their on-going strategy as the company gears up for the next generation of gaming.

I find this new approach Microsoft is taking with app/game stores very interesting. Since Microsoft was unable to compete with the Google and Apple app stores it is taking a new tact… elevate niche app stores in the hopes of devaluing the current two juggernauts.

In reply to mikefarinha:

I suspect their sights are set a little lower than the Play Store and App Store. They're watching the Steams, Origins and uPlays make all of the gaming money on Windows, and they want a piece of it.

Keep in mind, so far at least, Plays Anywhere titles have to be purchased from the MS Store digitally and it's a specific version. Forza Horizon 3 was Plays Anywhere, but you couldn't Play Anywhere with a disc. Since these versions (apparently) don't even match the xbox version, I doubt that current Halo owners get this for free.
