Amazon is launching a brand-new Echo Dot Kids Edition today. The company’s new Echo Dot for kids is based on the third-generation Echo Dot, which comes with an improved design and speaker.
The new Echo Dots Kids Edition is therefore 70% louder than last year’s model. It’s also covered in a cloth covering like the third-gen Echo Dot, instead of having the classic plastic body. Amazon is now offering the new Echo Dots Kids Edition in two new colors: Rainbow, and Frost Blue.

Amazon says it enlisted the Family Online Safety Institute to build the FreeTime experience, and that it complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
Amazon is including a year of its FreeTime service, which gives users access to lots of entertainment and other content for kids. Parents will also be able to set limits, review activity on the device, set age limits, and filter out specific content to keep their kids safe.
The company is also including an interesting feature that lets them build their own Alexa Skill from a set of pre-made templates. The new Echo Dots Kids edition is available for $69.99, but Amazon is offering a 20% discount and you can get it for only $49.99 if you pre-order.
