Arc browser comes to Windows

The Browser Company announced today that its Arc web browser is now available for Windows 10 version 19H1 and newer. As intriguing, it now says that a native version for Windows on Arm is “coming soon.”

Arc’s announcement came via the release notes for a new version of the browser it delivered today, instead of a formal blog post. So it’s a bit light on the details. Basically, it should work on any supported version of Windows 10, though a separate support page notes that your PC has to support the BMI2 instruction set, which is available in all modern PCs. Windows 10 version 1809 is not supported, which is fine, as Microsoft doesn’t support that either.

Windows 10 support is the only major update in the latest Arc release. Other than that, it’s just bug fixes.

But the Windows on Arm port is interesting. If you’d like to be notified when an Arm64 native version of Arc is available—Windows 11 on Arm at least, but perhaps Windows 10 on Arm as well—then you can sign up for updates. I strongly recommend doing so, even if you don’t intend to use Arc: It’s important that this small company see how much this matters. That said, Arc works well on Snapdragon X-powered PCs as-is, thanks to its strong emulation capabilities.
