Amazon has just refreshed its Fire HD 8 tablet lineup with better cameras and more memory. The company also announced the launch of new generative AI features that will launch later this month on its latest Fire HD 8 tablets and other compatible models.
The new Fire HD 8 starts at $99.99, but Amazon is discounting it to just $54.99 ahead of its Prime Big Deal Days on October 8-9. It now comes with 32GB of storage, up to 1TB of expandable storage with the microSD card slot, 3GB of RAM (up from 2GB on the previous model), and a 5MP rear-facing camera (up from 2MP on the 2022 model).
Amazon is also offering a Fire HD 8 tablet with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM at $129.9, but it’s also discounted to $84.99 for a limited time. Both versions of the tablet come with the same cameras and should deliver up to 13 hours of battery live. The Fire HD 8 is available in Black, Hibiscus, or Emerald, and Amazon is also offering kid-friendly versions with a case that’s available in various designs, including Disney variants.
If these cheap Fire tablets are mostly designed for content consumption, Amazon will also start rolling out three three new generative AI features on compatible models later this month. A Writing Assist tool will be integrated into the tablet’s digital keyboard to help users enhance their writing in any app. A new Wallpaper Creator will also allow users to create custom wallpapers using natural language prompts, and Amazon’s Silk browser will gain the ability to summarize web pages.
In addition to Amazon’s latest Fire HD 8 series, these new generative AI features will also roll out to the company’s latest Fire HD 10 and new Fire Max 11 tablets. The new Fire HD 8 have started already started shipping to consumers, and with a $54.99 starting price, it will likely become a hot-selling item during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days.
