Microsoft has started testing a new “immersive” experience on the Windows 11 Microsoft Store that lets developers add hero images or auto-playing video trailers at the top of their product pages. This new product page experience is now rolling out to Windows Insiders across all channels, and it will be available for non-Insiders soon.
If you’re an Insider, you can see how these auto-playing video trailers work on the product pages for games like Halo Infinite or Starfield. The trailers blend in quite nicely with the information at the top of the page, and sound is off by default. There’s also a pause button at the bottom right corner of the trailer, and users can still turn off video autoplay in the Microsoft Store’s settings.
“For apps and games that provide a trailer, you’ll be able to enjoy it as you navigate to their various pages. Meanwhile, products without trailers will use beautiful hero images provided by the developers,” the Windows Insider team explained yesterday.
This new product page experience is part of what Microsoft calls the “Microsoft Store October 2024 update.” The last time Microsoft used this denomination was with the Microsoft Store August 2024 update, which introduced an updated library experience, a new page for updates and downloads, and limited time events on the store’s Games page.
