Report: Microsoft to Launch Smaller Surface Pro and Laptop Models With Snapdragon Chips this Spring

Microsoft may be getting ready to launch smaller versions of its most popular Surface devices, the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. According to Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, the smaller Surface devices may be coming in April/May, and they will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series chips, just like the latest consumer versions of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop that launched in June with the new “Copilot+ PC” label.

“Both devices will be premium products, and feature display sizes roughly around 11- or 12-inches,” Bowden learned from his sources. However, the report mentions Microsoft using Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon X/Snapdragon X Plus SoCs to reduce costs.

“My sources say the smaller Surface Pro has been built as a direct competitor to the 11-inch iPad Pro, meaning it should have a high refresh rate display, support for pen input, and its own detachable keyboard accessory,” Bowden wrote. “I believe the smaller Surface Laptop is likely to replace the Surface Laptop Go, and will include a backlit keyboard, higher resolution touchscreen, and an all-metal chassis like its larger Surface Laptop sibling,” he continued, adding that he was unsure if this smaller Surface Pro was set to replace the more affordable and Intel-powered Surface Go.

In addition to these smaller Qualcomm-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, Microsoft is also expected to introduce new versions of the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 with Intel Lunar Lake CPUs. These new models will be targeted at business customers, and Microsoft already teased an official announcement during the New York stop of its AI Tour on January 30.
