Microsoft is reportedly planning to retire the Dev Home app it introduced on Windows 11 back in 2023. While the app had yet to shed its “preview” tag, a screenshot of an internal version of the app with an upcoming deprecation message has been shared on a recent pull request on the project’s GitHub repository (via Windows Central).
“Dev Home will be going away in May 2025 and a subset of its features will be moved to new places. Stay tuned for more information in the following months,” the message reads.

For those unfamiliar, Dev Home works as a new dashboard where developers can configure the Windows Package Manager (winget), connect to developer accounts including GitHub, create a Dev Drive for storing all projects in one place, and more. The app is open source, and it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store and the project’s GitHub releases page.
It’s not immediately clear what are the Dev Home features Microsoft plans to keep around in other places on Windows 11. However, since Dev Home is an open-source project, its development may continue if other developers are willing to do something with it.
If Microsoft also made Dev Home available on Windows 10 last year, the OS will reach end of support in October 2025. While the deprecation message for the Dev Home app isn’t explicit, it’s unlikely that Microsoft is going to spend any resources to make some of the app’s features available natively on Windows 10.
