Microsoft Photos Adds New AI Features for Insiders on Copilot+ PCs

Windows Insiders on Copilot+ PCs can test two new AI-powered features in the Microsoft Photos app today. The first one is called Relight, and it adds dynamic lighting controls to pictures.

Relight was announced in early May as part of the next wave of Windows experiences Microsoft revealed alongside its new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop. It’s coming first to Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ PCs, with support for AMD and Intel models coming in the next few months.

“You can position up to three light sources, set the light color, and set the focus point where all lights automatically point. Brightness and intensity controls provide additional fine-tuning to achieve the desired effect. For quicker edits, built-in presets offer ready-made lighting styles that can be applied with a single click,” the Windows Insider team explained.

On Copilot+ PCs, the Microsoft Photos app is also adding support for the semantic, natural language search that’s also available via Windows Search in the taskbar. This lets Insiders search for photos using natural language, though only for photos that are saved locally and have been indexed.

Lastly, this new release enables the Restyle Image and Image Creator features for Insiders who are signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID account. The update for the Microsoft Photos app is rolling out now on all Insider channels.
