Google has started teasing some smart home announcements on October 1, with the company’s Gemini for Home assistant possibly launching in beta on that day. In a post on X yesterday, the company teased that “Gemini is coming to Google Home”, with a picture also showing the top of a Nest Cam doorbell.
Last week, Google announced during its Made By Google event that it was bringing its Gemini assistant to Google Home, its smart home platform, in early October. Gemini for Home is set to replace the legacy Google Assistant on existing smart speakers and displays, and it will be able to manage complex tasks through more natural conversations.
Is that you, Gemini? Come in and make yourself at Home ?

It’s really time for Google to pay attention to the smart home market as Amazon is currently testing its next-gen Alexa+ assistant in the US. Apple is also expected to launch a more conversational Siri and a first smart home display next year. A new version of the company’s entry-level HomePod Mini is also expected for later this fall.
Google hasn’t updated its lineup of Nest speakers and smart displays in years, though the company did tease a new home speaker during its hardware event last week. The X post showing a Nest Cam suggests that a new version may also be in the cards.
