Last week, Mozilla previewed some major new features coming to its Firefox web browser on the desktop. And today, some of those features are available via the Firefox 149 update.
“We’re prioritizing features that give users real power, choice, and strong privacy protections, built in a way that only Firefox can,” Mozilla head of Firefox Ajit Varma said at the time. “We’re solely focused on building the best browser, and our features over the next few months and beyond are driven by the feedback from our community.”
While the Firefox 149 release notes aren’t yet available as I write this, the three major new features that Mozilla previously previewed for this update are:
Split View. This long-awaited feature is a staple of Chromium-based browsers and can be quite useful. To put a tab in Split View, just right-click the tab and choose “Add Split View.”
Tab Notes. This Firefox Labs feature lets you add notes to any tab so you can pick up where you left off.
Free VPN. This feature will give you 50 GB of free data monthly in the U.S., France, Germany, and the U.K. at launch. I can’t see this one, but I’m in Mexico right now.
Firefox 149 is available today for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
