Google’s new Fitbit Edge is now official after some hardware details leaked last week. The new midrange fitness tracker is priced at $179.99, which is $20 more expensive than the Fitbit Charge 6 it’s replacing, but it comes with three months of Google Health Premium (a $29.97 value).
The Fitbit Edge will sit between the $99 screenless Fitbit Air and the $399 Google Pixel Watch 5 that both launched earlier this year. Instead of Google’s Wear OS, the Fitbit Edge runs the simpler Fitbit OS, which supports GPS navigation, timers, alarms, media controls for apps like YouTube Music, and push notifications.
“Building on the intuitive experience introduced with Pixel Watch 5, our completely reimagined on-device interface puts everything you need right at your fingertips,” Google said today. “Glanceable complications keep your essential stats front and center, from steps and weather to on-demand workouts, while fluid tiles bring rich Google Health metrics like sleep, cycle tracking, and heart rate directly to your wrist. It’s also packed with helpful everyday features, like Google Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications.”
Google says that the OLED display on the Fitbit Edge is 46% larger than the one on the Fitbit Charge 6, and the device also comes with a redesigned side button that supports tactile feedback. “Measuring just 11.5mm thin and featuring a case that’s 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12, Fitbit Edge is sleek and comfortable to wear all day and night,” Google said today.

The Fitbit Edge is water-resistant up to 50 meters, and it includes a user-replaceable battery that can last up to seven days on a single charge. It uses the same magnetic charger as the screenless Fitbit Air, and five minutes of charging is enough to get a full day of battery. Just like the Fitbit Air, Google is also offering different types of bands, including the breathable Active Sport band, the micro-adjustable Performance Loop band, the Magnet band, and the elevated Metal Links band. A Stephen Curry Special Edition Fitbit Edge is also available for $219.99, and it comes with a water-repellent and moisture-resistant band.
For health tracking, the Fitbit Edge includes an optical heart rate sensor, an EKG sensor to detect atrial fibrillation, a skin temperature sensor, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, plus an altimeter, accelerometer, and gyroscope for automatic activity recognition. Google also says that the built-in GPS is 40% more precise than the one in the previous-gen Fitbit Charge 6.
The Fitbit Edge supports the premium Health Guardian features that alert users about important changes in their health metrics. It’s also compatible with the AI-powered Google Health Coach that are also available with a Google Health Premium subscription.
Google’s new midrange fitness tracker is available for pre-order today from the Google Store and other retail partners, and it will start shipping on October 27. The basic silicon Active band is available in four finishes: Matte Black, Silver, Olive, and Warm Gold.
