Opera Gets a Major Refresh

Opera is launching what it calls a reimagined Opera Air, the new version of its minimalist desktop web browser.

“Packed with tools and features that surround your screen, browsers sometimes add to the clutter, paradoxically making it harder to focus and complete your tasks,” Opera’s Patrick Curtin writes. “Opera Air does not have any less utility than other browsers. It simply starts with less, offering you a warm, welcoming window from which to begin. There are no Speed Dials. Notifications and promotional content is off by default.”

Opera launched Opera Air in early 2025 as a minimalist web browser with a focus on mindfulness. It’s been my favorite Opera browser ever since, thanks to its clean interface and lack of visual clutter. This new version retains everything unique about Opera Air, and it comes with a nice collection of calm new wallpaper images that automatically adjust between light and dark modes, five new Soundscapes for relaxing and focusing, and two new exercise types–Breathing and Neck Exercises–in Mindful Breaks.

Opera Air still looks fantastic. I just wish there was a mobile version. But you can get Opera Air for free for Windows and Mac on the Opera website.
