Opera Launches a More Mindful Web Browser

Opera Air

Opera today announced Opera Air, a free and minimalist new version of its web browser that’s focused on mindfulness.

“The web is beautiful but it can be chaotic and overwhelming,” Opera senior director Mohamed Salah says. “We decided to look at science-backed ways to help our users navigate it in a way that makes them feel and function better.”

Like the flagship Opera browser, Opera Air is powerful, secure, and fully functional. But it’s designed to make users feel better when browsing the web, with a minimalist Scandinavian design with a frosted glass UI and integrated mindfulness features like breathing exercises, meditation, binaural beats, stretching, and positive quotes. The goal is to help users manage stress, enhance focus, and maintain emotional clarity throughout the day, Opera says.

Key features include Take a Break–with breathing, neck exercise, meditation, and fully body scan choices–and Boosts, which uses binaural beats to influence brainwave activity, helping to promote relaxation, focus, or a meditative state. Binaural beats generates a unique soundscape by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear, and there are options like Creativity Boost, Energized Focus, Deep Relaxation, and many others.

All these features are optional, of course, and users can keep browsing or working while listening to Boosts or other background music and nature sounds. The goal, Opera notes, is for users to achieve a state of focused calm that will be useful to them as they work or read.

You can learn more and download Opera Air from the Opera website.
