Microsoft has detailed today new features designed to help Copilot for Microsoft 365 customers get more value from the AI assistant. And according to the company, it all starts with writing better prompts.

“We hear one consistent piece of feedback from our customers: talking to AI is harder than it seems,” explained, Jared Spataro, CVP, AI at Work at Microsoft. Drawing a parallel with how people can get the best results from traditional search engines by using the right keywords, the exec explained that Copilot for Microsoft 365 will soon help users improve the quality of their prompts by adding more context.

Copilot for Microsoft 365 is the paid version of Microsoft’s AI assistant for customers with commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscriptions. Customers can access the assistant across various Microsoft 365 apps, and the main Copilot web app also lets users switch between the paid “Work” experience and the classic “Web” experience for free users. This toggle is also now available within Copilot in Windows.

In the coming months, Copilot for Microsoft 365 will be getting the following features:

Auto-complete prompts: When customers start writing a prompt, Copilot will provide suggestions to help users get more relevant results

Rewrite prompts: Copilot will be able to turn a basic prompt into a richer one with more detailed instructions.

Catch up: Copilot for Microsoft 365 will add a new chat interface where the Assistant will offer personal recommendations based on recent activity, upcoming meetings, and more.

Prompt management: In Copilot Lab, users will be able to create prompts for specific tasks or teams, manage them from a central interface, and publish them to make them accessible to others.

Microsoft detailed these new Copilot features alongside the publication of its new Work Trend Index Report, which focuses on the state of AI at work. This year, Microsoft has teamed up with LinkedIn to surveyed 31,000 people across 31 countries to identify how AI is redefining work. You can check out the full report on this page.
