Microsoft announced yesterday that it will be holding a OneDrive digital event on October 8. The theme of the event is “AI Innovations for a new era of work and home,” and it will be live-streamed on Microsoft Teams at 10 AM PT.
The event will feature Jeff Teper, President, of Microsoft 365 Collaborative Apps and Platforms, Jason Moore, VP of Product for OneDrive and Microsoft Lists, and other members of the OneDrive team. In the announcement, Microsoft teased new features coming to Copilot in OneDrive, the OneDrive mobile app, as well as an “improved photos experience.”
Microsoft launched a redesigned OneDrive web app in January, and Copilot also came to OneDrive earlier this spring, though only for commercial customers with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. The AI assistant can help OneDrive users find specific files using natural language prompts, but it can also extract information from them, summarize it, and more.
Yesterday, Microsoft also announced a Microsoft 365 Copilot: Wave 2 digital event on September 16. This separate event will feature Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CVP of AI at Work Jared Spataro, and it will be live-streamed on LinkedIn.
In recent years, Microsoft also held Surface/hardware events in the fall, and it will be interesting to see if the company plans to refresh the rest of the Surface lineup, including the more affordable Surface Laptop Go and the Surface Go. The company announced new business editions of its Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 yesterday, but Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Plus 8-core chip seems like a good option for refreshing the company’s entry-level Surface devices.
