Microsoft is continuing to improve the new AI-powered search experience on Copilot+ PCs by making OneDrive photos searchable via the search box in the Windows 11 taskbar. The new feature is starting to roll out today with the Windows 11 preview build 26120.3291 for Insiders on the Dev and Beta Channels.
In a previous flight, Microsoft already made it possible for Insiders with Copilot+ PCs to find OneDrive photos using a natural language prompt via the search bar in File Explorer. Now, the Windows Search box in the taskbar can do the same.
“In addition to photos stored locally on your Copilot+ PC, photos from the cloud will now show up in the search results together. In addition to searching for photos, exact matches for your keywords within the text of your cloud files will show in the search results,” the Windows Insider team explained today.
As of today, this AI-powered search experience can only surface photos from OneDrive consumer accounts when Insiders with Copilot+ PCs are signed in with their Microsoft account and connected to the Internet. Microsoft is planning to add support for third-party cloud storage services soon.
Today’s Windows 11 build 26120.3291 also improves the AI-powered Recall feature on Copilot+ PCs. If the Windows Insider team didn’t detail what’s changing, all previous Recall snapshots will be automatically deleted. Insiders will also need to update Microsoft 365 apps to the latest version so they can jump back into specific documents.
A new Snipping Tool update is also rolling out to Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels today. It introduces a new trim capability to let users adjust the start and end times of their screen recordings.
Lastly, the Windows 11 preview build 22635.4950 is also available for Beta testers who didn’t opt in to receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2. This build brings a new drag tray feature and two new views to the “All” page in the Start menu. You can get more details in my separate post.
