Windows 11’s March Security Update May Remove Copilot From Your PC

Microsoft Copilot app on Windows 11

If you noticed that the consumer version of Microsoft’s Copilot assistant has recently disappeared from your PC, you’re not alone. Microsoft acknowledged a new known issue in its March 2025 Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11 that may cause the Copilot app to be uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar (via The Verge).

The issue affects all supported versions of Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. Microsoft said in the updated release notes that it doesn’t affect the separate Microsoft 365 Copilot app (formerly the Microsoft 365 app), which also provides access to the AI assistant in addition to productivity features.

The software giant said that this Copilot issue has been affecting “some devices” running the latest versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10, but it’s not clear how widespread it really is. Anyway, Microsoft said that it’s already working on a fix. In the meantime, if you notice that the Copilot app has disappeared from your PC after installing the latest security patches, you can reinstall it from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it to the taskbar.

Microsoft recently started testing a new version of its Copilot app with Insiders that introduces a press-to-talk feature. The company redesigned its Copilot for Windows app multiple times already, and the latest version is a native XAML app with an updated UI.
