The Xbox team is launching today a new Copilot for Gaming assistant via the beta version of the Xbox app for iOS and Android. This first version of the assistant can answer questions about Xbox games, players’ achievements and subscriptions, and provide game recommendations.
“In this early version of the feature for mobile, you’ll be able to access Copilot for Gaming on a second screen, without distracting you from your core gameplay experience,” the Xbox team explained today. “The companion knows what game you’re playing and understands your Xbox activity, so it can answer any questions about the games you’re interested in, provide links to more information when its response includes web sources, or answer questions based on your account, play history and achievements.”
Just like Microsoft would like the consumer version of its Copilot assistant to become your AI companion, the company would like Copilot for Gaming to become your “gaming sidekick.” While the gaming assistant can currently access gamers’ player activity and web sources, the Xbox team is already planning to introduce more personalization features and “proactive coaching.”
At the moment, it’s hard to imagine that Xbox players will drop their controller and pick up their phones to ask questions to an AI assistant. This is probably something that should be accessible right from Xbox consoles, similar to the Edge-powered “Game Assist” feature that Microsoft recently introduced on Windows 11. However
The beta version of Xbox’s Copilot for Gaming is currently only available in English for players in the US, Canada, Brazil, India, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and a couple of other markets. For Android users, the beta version of the Xbox app for Android can be downloaded from the Play Store. For iOS users, however, it’s no longer possible to join the beta via Apple’s TestFlight app as seats are currently full.
“Early testing for Copilot for Gaming (Beta) will also be coming soon to Game Bar on Windows PC, and we also have plans to make it available more widely in the Xbox app for mobile in the future,” the Xbox team said today.
