Google Brings Featured Notebooks to NotebookLM

Featured notebooks in NotebookLM

Google’s NotebookLM grounds its AI in uploaded files, but now it can also be extended with featured notebooks from high-quality sources. Today, Google announced 8 more of these featured notebooks, with topics ranging from longevity advice to Yellowstone Park and more.

“One of the secrets to getting the most out of NotebookLM is assembling high-quality sources to help you explore your interests,” Google Labs editorial director Steven Johnson writes. “Today, we’re rolling out a new feature making that easier than ever. We’re working with respected authors, researchers, publications, and nonprofits around the world to create featured notebooks.”

The initial lineup of featured notebooks includes:

Each collection lets you read the original source material, ask questions, and explore specific topics in depth, and all answers are grounded in the source and provided with citations. There are also pre-generated Audio Overviews and Mind Maps, which help you explore main themes.

Tied to this, NotebookLM recently introduced the ability to publicly share notebooks as well, and Google says that users have now created over 140,000 public notebooks. There will also be new featured notebooks, of course, including additional collections from Google’s partnerships with The Economist and The Atlantic.

Featured notebooks are rolling out starting today in NotebookLM for desktop (web).
