OpenAI Launches New Third-Party Apps in ChatGPT

Apps in ChatGPT

OpenAI kicked off its third annual DevDay today and announced new third-party apps in ChatGPT. Starting today, ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users outside of the EU can chat with a selection of apps that include Booking, Expedia, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Zillow, and Spotify.

When using ChatGPT, users will be able to ask these apps to do things for them, such as booking a reservation or creating a playlist. ChatGPT will also be able to suggest the use of these apps based on the content of conversations. Each of these apps will require users to connect their accounts the first time they use them within ChatGPT.

“The magic of this new generation of apps in ChatGPT is how they blend familiar interactive elements–like maps, playlists and presentations–with new ways of interacting through conversation. You can start with an outline and ask Canva to transform it into a slide deck, or take a course with Coursera and ask ChatGPT to elaborate on something in the video as you watch,” OpenAI explained today.

The first selection of ChatGPT apps I mentioned above is available in English, with more coming soon later this year. OpenAI is also launching today a preview of its Apps SDK, an open-source tool that developers can use to create apps for ChatGPT. OpenAI also said today that it’s working on a centralized app directory and monetization features for developers.

Overall, this is pretty much an “App Store” moment for ChatGPT, which recently crossed 800 million weekly active users according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Earlier today, the AI startup also announced a strategic partnership with AMD, which will result in OpenAI deploying 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs through 2030.
