Gemini Deep Research Can Now Access Google Workspace Data

Google’s agentic Deep Research feature in Gemini can now access data from Google Workspace accounts. That includes emails in Gmail, Google Drive files, and chat conversations in Google Chat, which can now give Gemini more context when creating its detailed reports.

“Now you can start a market analysis for a new product by having Deep Research analyze your team’s initial brainstorming docs, related email threads and project plans. Or you can build a competitor report about a rival product that cross-references public web data with your strategies, comparison spreadsheets and team chats,” Google said in the announcement.

Deep Research launched back in December 2024 alongside Google’s flagship Gemini 2.0 AI model, and the agentic AI feature was updated earlier this year to deliver higher-quality reports with more details and insights. Deep Research also shows Gemini users how it thinks as it goes through all stages of its research, and it can create multi-page reports in minutes.

Google said that giving Deep Research the ability to draw context from Workspace files has been “one of our most-requested features.” It’s now available for all Gemini users on the desktop, with mobile support coming soon. However, Deep Research still needs to be selected manually from Gemini’s Tools menu, and the agentic feature comes with usage limits.
