Google is Testing AI Mode Integration Into Search Results

Google Search AI MOde

Google has started testing a new integration of its AI Mode in Search directly into the Search results page. This is where the company is already showing AI Overviews, which are ChatGPT-like answers appearing at the top of search results for some queries, but integrating AI Mode into this will allow users to go deeper without switching to a separate tab.

“This brings us closer to our vision for Search: just ask whatever’s on your mind – no matter how long or complex – and find exactly what you need. You shouldn’t have to think about where or how to ask your question. “This means you’ll continue to get an AI Overview as a helpful starting point, and now you can also ask conversational follow-up questions in AI Mode – right from where you are,” explained Robby Stein, VP of Product, Google Search on X (via TechCrunch).

The AI Mode integration in Google Search experiment is currently mobile-only, and it should be available for select users in all markets where AI Mode is already available. The new experience is designed to offer a seamless way to access the new AI Mode, which uses Google’s Gemini models to offer a conversational experience where users can ask follow-up questions.

Google’s Search and AI teams are currently firing on all cylinders, and the company’s latest Gemini 3 and Nano Banana Pro models are now rolling out to more people around the world in Google Search. Gemini 3 is also available from Google’s AI Mode in nearly 120 countries in English. Gemini 3 is apparently so good that it prompted OpenAI to issue a “code red” alert on Monday, forcing the AI startup to delay some products and announcements to focus on improving ChatGPT.
