1Password announced today that it has partnered with Anthropic on secure credential and AI agent integration. The result is a new 1Password for Claude offering that’s available first on the Mac.
“1Password for Claude is built on a zero-exposure architecture,” 1Password’s Mitchell Cohen and Horia Culea write. “Claude can complete browser tasks that require logins and one-time passcodes, but the credentials never enter the model or its memory. 1Password stays the source of truth for the secret, and access is granted only at runtime.”
The goal here is to allow Claude AI agents to use your credentials without exposing those credentials to risk. When Claude needs to sign in to a website, 1Pasword will display which credential the AI is requesting and why. If you confirm the request using biometrics, 1Password will inject the credential–which could be a password, a one-time code, or whatever vault item–directly into the webpage, so Claude won’t see it.
“Access is scoped to the current task and ends when the task is complete,” 1Password explains. “After autofill, 1Password checks that secrets were not exposed on the page. If submission fails, it clears the filled values before returning control.”

1Password is also updating its browser plug-ins with a new feature called Agent Mode that protects your data from browser-based AI agents. This works with Anthropic’s Claude extension, of course, but also with other AI agents.
“As agents become more capable, they become a new class of identity,” 1Password adds. “They need governed access just like humans and machines do. 1Password for Claude applies that model to browser-based delegation: Claude can act with explicit user authorization and only gets the access it needs, when it needs it. The credential stays encrypted, controlled, and out of the model context.”
1Password for Claude is available now for Mac, across business, family, and individual plans. But there are a lot of moving pieces here: This initial release requires the 1Password desktop app for Mac, the 1Password extension for whichever browsers you use, the Claude desktop app, and the Claude browser extension.
