Google Brings E-Books to Gemini Notebook

Google today announced Expert Intelligence, a way to bring trusted sources into Gemini Notebook. It’s starting with select e-books purchased through Google Play Books, but Expert Intelligence will expand to include other trusted sources like third-party subscriptions, business research reports, and textbooks soon.

“Expert Intelligence is a cross Google initiative that helps you engage with your trusted sources through Google AI products,” Google’s Steven Johnson and Will Houghteling explain. “You can now incorporate insights from leading authors, publications, and domain experts, including from titles you’ve purchased, directly into Gemini Notebook, with more products joining soon.”

Gemini Notebook–originally called NotebookLM–has emerged as one of the better AI-based products that Google makes. But expert Intelligence makes it even better, as it lets users add select e-books purchased from Google Play Books directly to a Gemini Notebook so you can ground discussions and research in that content. You can also use Gemini Notebook to generate Infographics, Audio Overviews, Quizzes, and more using these books.

Google worked with authors and publishers to understand what people might want to get out of their books. Expert Intelligence is launching with over 100,000 books from major publishers, like Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, O’Reilly Media, and Penguin Random House. And over 15 best-selling authors–including Steven Pinker, Michael Pollan, and Jennifer Wallace–created special Featured Notebooks to supplement their books with additional source material and other artifacts so readers can dive even deeper into those topics.
