Amazon’s New Kindle Gets a Pixel and Storage Boost

Amazon unveiled today a new version of its Kindle e-reader. This new Kindle comes with a 6-inch 330 PPI high-resolution display, 16GB of storage, and a USB-C port for charging. A Kindle Kids version is also available with a kid-friendly cover and one year of Amazon Kids+.

“With a high-resolution display that delivers three-times more pixels than our previous base Kindle, USB-C charging, 16GB of storage, and built-in adjustable front light, the new ultralight Kindle is the latest example of how we continue to bring premium features to our entry-level devices for even more customers to enjoy,” said Kevin Keith, vice president of Amazon Devices and Services.

Amazon claims that its new Kindle and Kindle Kids are the lightest and most compact models the company ever released. The company also emphasized its sustainability efforts with its new Kindle devices being built with 90% recycled magnesium. Despite the smaller form factor, Amazon promises up to six weeks of battery life on its new Kindle.

The new Kindle and Kindle Kids come with three-times more pixels than the previous base Kindle.

Amazon’s eBook store on Kindle devices provides access to millions of books, and customers, and you can get started for free. For a limited time, Amazon will offer a free four-month Kindle Unlimited membership to customers, which provides unlimited access to a selection of over 2 million eBooks. Amazon Prime members also get access to a rotation selection of thousands of books, magazines, and more for free.

For parents, Kindle Kids with one year of Amazon Kids+ also provides unlimited access to a curated selection of thousands of books. “Since the first Kindle Kids device debuted three years ago, kids have logged nearly 3 billion minutes of reading time on their Kindle devices, with no distractions on their devices from games, videos, social media, or apps,” the company said today.

Amazon’s new Kindle is available starting today at $99.99 in black or denim colors. Kindle Kids will be available starting at $119.99 in black. Amazon also offers new fabric covers in black, rose, denim, and dark emerald, and there are also three kid-friendly cover designs to choose from.
