Apple Could Bundle AirPods With 2020 iPhones

Apple is, apparently, considering bundling its $159 AirPods for free with the 2020 iPhones. Okay, I know, this sounds a bit absurd — and you aren’t wrong.

According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple is looking to bundle its truly-wireless earbuds with the iPhone 12 next year. And Apple isn’t the only company planning to do so — the report claims Samsung and Xiaomi are looking into bundling their own truly-wireless earbuds with their flagship phones next year as well.

But here is the thing, though: this probably will not happen. For one, AirPods cost $159, and unless Apple was to raise the price of the iPhone 12, it’s very unlikely we are going to get free pairs of AirPods with the next iPhone.

And second, AirPods are crazy popular right now. It’s so popular that Apple’s suppliers are struggling to meet demands. Not to mention, demand for the $249 AirPods Pro has surpassed Apple’s original expectations, and the company only recently doubled the production of the AirPods Pro.

Oh and, DigiTimes doesn’t really have a solid track record when it comes to these rumors. Apple bundling AirPods for free with the next iPhones is something a lot of us would like to see, but in reality, it doesn’t make any sense at all for Apple’s business. And last time I checked, Apple loves to maximise its profits.

Another reason it makes little sense, is the 1st two generations of wireless Airpods are not one-size fits all. They are one size period, and if they don't fit, your ears are wrong. They are designed just like their wired earbuds that have been included forever. If you can't use those, not really a big deal. If you can't use the wireless ones, that would likely irritate people, as you will be paying for them. The new Pro's with replaceable tips are much more universal, but you darned sure aren't getting a pair of those in the box.
