Apple is Reportedly Working on an iPhone Journaling App

Apple is reportedly working on a journaling app for iPhone users, according to The Wall Street Journal. The app is expected to let users keep track of their daily activities, and it could mark another important milestone in Apple’s healthcare ambitions.

“The Apple journaling app, code-named Jurassic, is designed to help users keep track of their daily lives, according to the documents describing the software. The app will analyze the users’ behavior to determine what a typical day is like, including how much time is spent at home compared with elsewhere, and whether a certain day included something outside the norm, according to the documents,” the report reads.

The report also mentioned an “All Day People Discovery” feature that will let users know when they’re in proximity to other people, with the app also aiming to identify friends from colleagues. However, Apple’s journaling app is expected to offer privacy by design and all personal data will be processed on iPhones. Journaling suggestions will also be deleted after four weeks, the report says.

Apple is likely to announce this new journaling app at its upcoming WWDC conference in June. The Wall Street Journal couldn’t confirm if the app will be free to use, but it will be competing with established third-party apps such as Day One. “It’s always the worst thing to have to hear that you’re about to be sherlocked,” said Paul Mayne, founder of the Day One app to the WSJ.

In recent years, most of Apple’s healthcare activity has been focused on the Apple Watch, but for many of us, smartphones remain the center of our digital lives. Apple did bring its Fitness app to the iPhone with iOS 16 last year, and this is indeed the right device to let people capture their thoughts and keep track of their various daily activities.
