Tim Cook Teases New MacBook Air Announcement Later This Week

Apple MacBook Air

Apple seems to be getting used to teasing new product launches on social media. Today, Apple CEO Tim Cook just posted a short video on X with a “There’s something in the AIR” message and added a “This week” comment to it.

Last month, Tim Cook had already teased the reveal of the new iPhone 16E via an X post. The new entry-level iPhone was then announced on Wednesday, February 19 with a press release and a 12-minute-long video. In case you missed it on Friday, I already published a hands-on with this new iPhone and plan to follow up with my full review later this week.

The usually well-informed Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also reported yesterday that Apple could announce new MacBook Air models with M4 chips this week. This would be consistent with Apple’s M3 MacBook Air reveal a year ago on March 4, 2024.

According to Gurman, the M4 MacBook Air may not be the only new “Air” product announced this week. “The iPad Air is in extremely short supply as well right now. So a double Air announcement isn’t out of the question though the MacBook Air has been in production longer and has less available inventory,” the reporter posted on X.

The current-gen 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air with M2 chips was released in May 2024, so it may be a bit early in the year for a refresh. If it does happen this week, however, the new models may use Apple’s older M3 chip to differentiate the iPad Air lineup from the iPad Pro family, which is where the M4 made its debut last year.
