Apple announced today a new Studio Display and a more premium Studio Display XDR with a mini-LED backlight, a wider color gamut, and Adaptive Sync. The two 27-inch models also offer a 12MP Center Stage camera with improved image quality, as well as Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.

Both models offer a 27-inch 5120×2880 panel with True Tone support, an anti-reflective coating, and a nano-texture glass option. With its Mini-LED backlight, the new XDR model offers up to 1000 nits of peak brightness in SDR (compared to just 600 nits on the Studio Display) and 2000 nits in HDR. It also supports Adobe RGB in addition to the P3 wide color gamut. It’s also the only model with a 120Hz refresh rate, which helps to improve responsiveness.

“Studio Display gets even better with a new 12MP Center Stage camera and powerful Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. And the Studio Display XDR is a huge leap forward for XDR technology, with a mini-LED backlight, 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness, advanced color accuracy, and a 120Hz refresh rate, transforming workflows like filmmaking, design and print, and 3D animation. It’s by far the world’s best pro display,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

Consumers can also expect a studio‑quality three‑mic array and six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio on both models. As for connectivity, there’s one upstream Thunderbolt 5 port for connecting to a Mac and charging, one downstream Thunderbolt 5 port for high-speed accessories or daisy-chaining additional displays, plus two USB-C ports for accessories and charging.

The new Studio Display with a tilt-adjustable stand starts at $1,599, and the Studio Display XDR with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand starts at $3,299. Both models will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, and they will start shippingon March 11 along with the new M5 MacBook Air, M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros, M4 iPad Air, and iPhone 16E.
