Apple Releases macOS 26.3.2 Just for the MacBook Neo

Apple announced today the release of macOS Tahoe 26.3.2, a bug-fixing update that’s only available to download on the MacBook Neo (via 9to5Mac). Apple’s new entry-level MacBook will start shipping tomorrow, March 11, but it’s already in the hands of select media outlets that published their reviews today.

The $599 MacBook Neo is Apple’s first MacBook powered by an iPhone chip, the A18 Pro that shipped on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max from 2024. The chip provides similar performance to Apple’s M1 chip that was previously seen on the first Apple Silicon Macs released in the fall of 2020. Walmart used to sell that M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage for $699, just $100 more than the MacBook Neo, but it’s now out of stock as of this writing.

The first MacBook Neo reviews published today pointed out the solid performance despite the 8GB of memory and slower SSD storage, as well as the premium build quality. However, the absence of a backlit keyboard and MagSafe charging port is quite noticeable. The MacBook Neo only comes with 2 USB-C ports, one USB 3 port, and one slower USB 2 port, and one of them has to be used for charging. The Touch ID sensor on the keyboard is also optional and only available on the 512 GB model.

At just $599 ($499 for education customers), the MacBook Neo is still expected to be a big seller. It’s the cheapest MacBook Apple has ever made, and there’s a $500 difference with the cheapest MacBook Air with a more powerful M5 chip. The MacBook Neo also costs the same as the new iPhone 17E, which will also start shipping tomorrow.
