Report: iOS 27 Will Let Users Split Bills Via Apple’s Wallet App

iPhone Tap to Pay

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update will reportedly allow iPhone users to split bills via the Apple Wallet app. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is reporting that the new feature will work by taking a photo of a bill and sharing it with others via the Apple Wallet or Messages app.

“The new tool can calculate each person’s share of a bill, including item costs, tax and tip,” Gurman explained. This new bill-splitting feature will leverage the Apple Cash system that already allows users to send and receive money with people they know via Apple Wallet or the Messages app on an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Apple adding a native solution for splitting bills on iOS 27 will put the company in direct competition with Splitwise and other bill-splitting apps. Gurman previously reported that the Apple Wallet on iOS 27 will also allow users to create custom passes for digital tickets, memberships, and more.

A lot of information about iOS 27 has leaked ahead of Apple’s WWDC conference next week. The main attraction should be a standalone Siri app that can understand users’ personal context and act on multiple requests at once. Apple is also expected to integrate Siri into the Camera app, and the company may go as far as allowing third-party models from Google, Anthropic, and other companies to power Apple Intelligence features.
