Following the reveal of a new iPad mini with an OLED display and a faster A20 Pro chip yesterday, Apple is carrying on with its Fall 2026 hardware refresh cycle today. The company just announced new versions of its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with the new M6 chip that made its debut in the latest Mac mini.
The new entry-level MacBook Pro starts at $1999 for the model with 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage, with options to upgrade to up to 32GB of unified memory and up to 4TB of storage. The M6 chip in this new MacBook Pro is the same as the one in the new Mac mini: It includes 12 CPU cores, 12 GPU cores with neural accelerators, and a dual 16-core neural engine.
“ The 12-core GPU delivers up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster AI workloads when compared to M5, making the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 a compelling value for users who need serious power.2 For those upgrading from M1, the performance gains are even more significant, with up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance,” Apple said today.
Compared to last year’s model with an M5 chip, the M6 MacBook Pro also offers faster memory bandwidth (up to 170GB/s), Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. Battery life is unchanged, and consumers can expect up to 16 hours of web browsing and up to 24 hours of video streaming.
Apple’s iMac wasn’t updated with M5 chips last year, so the transition from M4 to M6 chips is going to be more significant. The M6 iMac with two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports starts at $1499, but this model has a less powerful M6 chip with just 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. The M6 iMac with 4 Thunderbolt / USB4 ports, however, starts at $1699 and has the same M6 chip with 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores as the latest MacBook Pro and Mac mini.
Both M6 iMac models start with 16GB of unified memory and 256B of storage, but only the version with 4 Thunderbolt / USB4 ports can be upgraded with a maximum of 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage. Otherwise, the two desktop apps also add support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and there’s a 2.5Gb Ethernet port by default on the model with 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports (it’s optional on the base model).
“The new iMac is a tremendous upgrade — especially for users coming from an Intel-based iMac, who will experience performance that’s up to 18x faster.1 And with macOS 27, Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features integrated across apps make AI tasks on iMac more personal and powerful than ever,” Apple said today.
Customers can pre-order the new MacBook Pro and iMac with M6 chips starting tomorrow, October 28, and both products will start shipping on Friday, November 6.
