That Time My Name Appeared in a Firefox Ad (Premium)

When Mozilla launched Firefox 1.0 in 2004, it took out a two-page ad in the New York Times. And if you squint really hard, you can find my name in there.

I guess I should have mentioned this anecdote in yesterday's post, I'm Switching (Back) to Firefox(Premium). But I was trying to focus more on the present.

Anyway, my long-time relationship with Mozilla and Firefox, as well as Firefox's predecessors dating back to the original Netscape Navigator browser, is very real. And in 2004, Mozilla was preparing to launch the first non-beta version of Firefox, and it was raising money to make that happened.

So I contributed. And my name is in the ad that Mozilla bought to celebrate the launch.

Here's how Mozilla described the ad at the time.

"The ad, coordinated by Spread Firefox, features the names of the thousands of people worldwide who contributed to the Mozilla Foundation's fundraising campaign to support last month's highly successful launch of the open source Mozilla Firefox 1.0 web browser ... To date, Firefox has been downloaded by over 11 million people worldwide."

Anyway, I bought a copy of the ad, I think directly from Mozilla, framed it, and hung it in my office for many years. I believe it was collateral damage from our pre-move cleaning efforts, however.

Still, I was happy to be a (very small) part of it. As shown here ....
