Hundreds of Twitter Employees Have Reportedly Left Since Yesterday

Earlier this week, Elon Musk gave an ultimatum to the Twitter employees that remained after the company laid off 50% of its workforce and 80% of its contractors: Either stay and commit to a “hardcore” work culture or leave with three months of severance pay.

This ultimatum expired yesterday, and Reuters and other publications are now reporting that “hundreds” of the remaining 3,000 Twitter employees have since left the company. Many of them announced their resignation on Twitter, and you can see dozens of these resignation messages in the replies to the following tweet.

Following this massive round of departures, the company has also reportedly closed its offices and cut badge access until Monday. Elon Musk doesn’t seem to be concerned about Twitter’s workforce evaporating in just a couple of days, though. “The best people are staying, so I’m not super worried,” Musk tweeted yesterday.

“Record numbers of users are logging in to see if Twitter is dead, ironically making it more alive than ever,” Musk also tweeted a couple of hours ago in his usual provocative tone. Despite Musk trying to keep a good face in all this drama, it’s not exactly clear how the company will be able to continue to operate in the next couple of weeks.

“If it does break, there is no one left to fix things in many areas,” one Twitter employee told Reuters anonymously.. Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion, but this has quickly turned out as one the most disastrous acquisitions we’ve ever seen in the tech landscape.
