Microsoft Edge Workspaces Get a Limited Public Preview

Microsoft announced today that the Edge Workspaces feature that the company released as an enterprise public preview last fall was now available in public preview. For now, however, the company will only allow a limited group of users to test the collaboration feature as it continues to listen to user feedback.

Microsoft Edge Workspaces is a collaboration feature allowing users to share a set of tabs and favorites with other Edge users. Workspaces exist in a separate space in the browser, and they can have their own name related to a specific project such as an upcoming trip.

“In Workspaces, you can create a single, shared view of your group’s web pages and documents within a unique browser window, with real-time updates. For that trip you’re planning, you can invite those in your group to view the same pages, share flights, lodging options, and even create a shared document to collaborate on trip activities and plans,” the Edge team explained.

Accessing Workspaces within Microsoft Edge required to be signed in to the browser with a personal Microsoft account. However, the Edge team emphasized that Edge Workspaces “is not browser screensharing” and that personal data including logins, cookies, and passwords aren’t shared with other people who have access to an Edge Workspace.

Currently, Edge Workspaces are only available on the Windows and macOS versions of Microsoft Edge, and you’ll need to be running version 111.0.1661.51 or higher to access the feature. The limited preview can get accessed via this link, and beta testers can send 5 invites to friends and family to join the Workspaces preview.
