Microsoft Edge Version 113 is Now Available

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge version 113 has started rolling out on Windows, macOS, and Linux. This update brings some improvements to the browser’s enhanced security mode, and there’s also a new updater tool named Edge Updater for Mac users.

For those unfamiliar with it, Microsoft Edge has an optional Enhanced Security mode that can improve security by disabling just-in-time (JIT) Javascript compilation on unfamiliar sites. It also enables additional protections such as Hardware-enforced Stack Protection and Arbitrary Code Guard.

“In this release, updates include consolidating the security level settings to Balanced and Strict mode,” the Edge team said in the release notes without providing further details. Currently, the Strict mode for Edge’s Enhanced Security mode applies security protections on all sites, which can possibly make some of them non-functional. The Balanced is probably the safest choice.

For Mac users, Microsoft Edge 113 will start using a new EdgeUpdater tool to install updates instead of the previous Microsoft Autoupdate tool. The latter is also used for installing updates to the Office for Mac apps that aren’t downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Just like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge is now on a 4-week release cycle, and Chrome 113 was also released last week. This new update introduced improved video calling with faster AV1 encoding, WebGPU support, and more.
